Mobility Mutual is a member-owned mutual providing cover for peer-to-peer car sharing
About us
We operate a discretionary mutual fund to provide financial protection as an alternative to insurance.
Mobility Mutual is owned and run by members, for the benefit of members. We offer discretionary risk protection to Uber Carshare’s car-sharing community, including Trip Cover and Between-Booking Cover.
As a mutual, we use the combined purchasing power of our members to spread the cost of risk.
Proven protection for modern mobility.
Mobility Mutual is focused on protection, not profit, to provide members with access to tailored cover for shared cars.
A discretionary mutual is a way for a group of people to pool their funds for protection against risk. Mutuals have a long and proud history in many countries including Australia. They continue to grow in popularity due to their ability to provide flexibility, enhanced benefits and savings and better risk management practices.
The Mobility Mutual board’s discretion to provide protection means more flexibility, with a higher percentage of claims covered, compared to other financial products such as insurance.
Mobility Mutual is committed to a frictionless claims process. We call upon the expertise of our manager and service providers to quickly assess claims and provide a positive experience for members.
Expert management by members, for members
Mobility Mutual’s board manages the Mutual with the assistance of Picnic Services Pty Ltd (ACN 638 145 418), a subsidiary of Picnic Labs Limited (ACN 627 271 596), as the Manager and Carshare Support Pty Ltd (ACN 163 596 530) as the Managing Agent.
The Manager has expertise in mutual management and governance. The Managing Agent acts as a risk protection product and claims service provider and membership administrator.
The Manager has extensive insurance and reinsurance expertise and amongst other things supports the placement of the (re)insurance program that is used to help support the financial capability of Mobility Mutual to meet claims and to manage loss exposures.
How to join
Mobility Mutual membership is available exclusively to members of Uber Carshare who are invited to join.
People who borrow cars through the Uber Carshare platform will be invited to become a member of the Mutual when they book a trip on or after 22 November 2021.
People who list a car that’s dedicated to sharing with Uber Carshare can also access cover.
Once you become a member of Mobility Mutual, you will have access to the Mutual’s discretionary risk products such as Trip Cover and Between-Booking Cover.
Rights of members are regulated by the Mutual’s Constitution.
Protection issued to members is subject to the terms and conditions contained in the relevant Financial Services Guide, Product Disclosure Statement and Protection Wording for the product.
Copies of these documents and the Target Market Determination for Trip Cover and Between-Booking Cover are available on the Documents page.
